A NEW YEARS PROMISE

So before I started typing this post, I had a little bit of time to reflect and to consider all the amazing things that have happened to me this year, from incredible blog opportunities, career promotions, having a beautiful home and a faultless group of friends and family it really has been great. However, it was then that I got a bit emotional and realised that throughout this year I've let so many other great things slip the net because I've struggled to balance my work and social life. It's a lot easier said than done, to simply "make time" and as I write this I'm still not too sure how I'm going to get my shit together in 2016 but I'm so done with being fed up and not putting myself and my health first, and that my friends has gotta change.

This isn't me trying to say that in 2016 I'm totally re-inventing myself, but I've made myself a promise to just generally try and be happier. I'm going to make sure I'm more financially stable, take breaks when I need them, and get my ass back to the gym. Focus on my blog more and really try to grow my YouTube channel, because doing this kind of thing is such a release from a hard day at work or an argument with someone you care about.

I love you all so much and can't thank you enough for the fantastic opportunities you have given me.

See ya later 2015!

THE CHRISTMAS TAG

Oh hey ya'll. Can someone please slow down the run up to Christmas? Work is chaotic at the moment and 6 day weeks are wiping me clean out so I can only appologise for the lack of creative content over the next week or so but please have patience. In the mean time I thought I would do The Christmas Tag, and hope that some of you do it too. Make sure you tweet me or leave a comment to let me know when you've done so. Aaaand if you're feeling super stalkerish then go check out my YouTube channel too!

1. What is your favourite Christmas film?
I always seem to find myself torn between The Grinch or The Holiday. Both great festive films and so easy to watch with a cup of tea snuggled on the sofa..

2. Have you ever had a white Christmas?
I'm pretty sure a few years ago it snowed on Christmas, I mean not like in the films where everyone goes out and stands in the street, but I'm about 80% sure that it snowed for about 10 minutes. This could have also been a dream - oops!

3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
I'm assuming that by holiday we mean Christmas Day, and if so then I spend it at work. I've volunteered for the past three years now and honestly I don't mind doing it. Everyone is always in a lovely mood and people have so much more appreciation for the service because you're there on a day that everyone else in the town is with their families.

4. What is your favourite Christmas song?
The Pogues - Fairy tale of New York

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Nope, I didn't realise people actually did this!

6. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?
Rudolph, Blitzen, Prancer, Dancer.... No

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
I don't have any holiday traditions but it's nice to get together with all my family and watch the children enjoy themselves. It's strange that the older you get the less you care about yourself and more about spending time with people close to you.

8. Is your tree real or fake?
Fake of course, ain't nobody got time for hoovering up all those needles!

9. Be honest. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?
I'm going to be brutal here and say I prefer receiving. Simply because I'm not the greatest person when it comes to choosing gifts... Sorry!

10. What would be your dream place to visit in the festive season?
Would it be really stereotypical to say New York? I just can't handle all the beautiful images that start flying around Instagram at this time of year!! (Insert shameful Instagram plug here..)

11. Do you make New Years Resolutions and do you stick to them?
I usually make the same ones every year. To lose weight - see this post here, and to be more financially stable but I think that this kind of thing comes with time. Next year I want to travel more and spend less time worrying about the little things and start focusing on myself.

BODY LOATHING

This is definitely not something I ever thought I would see myself talking about, especially on the internet where everyone on the planet is able to read it. But recently I've come to realize that I spend every single day disgusted by my body. Weather it's the fact that I'm working so much at the minute and not eating properly, the lack of water I'm drinking, or how little iron I put into my system making me bruise like a peach but It's draining. Everything I try on at the minute I hate, and no amount of telling myself I'm probably an average size for my height is doing the trick.

Image: Pinterest

I pay £35 a month for a gym membership that I've not had the time to go to for over two months. I stuff my face with carbs to give me some sort of energy at work and when I get home I'm too tired and unmotivated to do anything that will help me drop a few pounds.

No one else seems to have realised I look different to what I did 6 months ago but to me it's really getting me down. I need to completely change my relationship with food and drink and prioritize my health over everything else for once in my life, it's too easy to slip off the bandwagon and get into a crap routine of cooking unhealthy food just because I live alone and see no point doing a huge meal for just myself. I'm willing to try pretty much anything as long as I can maintain my energy levels at work due to being on my feet for 10 hours or so a day.

I think body image perception is such an important thing, and not something I've ever had huge issues with but I don't believe anyone should feel as though they don't love the skin they're in. We only get one body in our lifetime.

LETS TALK EGGNOG..

Now if you know me, you'll know I like a good drink around this time of year... or two.. or three.. So when Waitrose contacted me and asked me to have a go at making Eggnog using products from the Waitrose Cellar, I couldn't be more excited. I've never tried Eggnog before, let alone make it so I had no idea how it was going to go. Most people use Bourbon but I decided to go with Kraken Spiced Rum instead and it worked amazingly. I've been sneezing and sniffling all day but with an extra 50ml more rum than required my nose was clear as day. (TMI, sorry)

To re-create my version of Eggnog, you will need:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 200ml whole milk
  • Double cream
  • 200ml, or 250ml in my case of Kraken Spiced Rum
  • Ground nutmeg
  • 25g caster sugar
  • A dash of vanilla syrup

The process for Eggnog is super straight forward, separate your egg yolks and whites and beat together the yolks with the caster sugar. Add the Kraken Rum slowly and mix the egg whites separately. Add the yolk/Kraken mix to the egg whites and eventually add the cream. Throw in a dash of vanilla syrup and serve with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top. Voila! Simple.

If you try out this recipe be sure to tag me on Instagram so I can see how it turned out! I also vlogged some of today, and although it was filled with me complaining I'm poorly and sniffling - it's still a video. Be sure to check it out here, and subscribe to my channel if you enjoyed it.

*This was a post in collaboration with Waitrose Cellar for their festive drinks collection, of which they supplied a gift voucher to purchase the supplies. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
